I love the song "No Man is an Island" by Tenth Avenue North. The first time I heard it on the radio, I couldn't help but fall in love with the lyrics. They gave me so much hope.
"I wish you never thought you had to go,
Wish you never thought you had to leave
Together we can lift each other up.
We can build a shelter for the weak.
No man is an island, we can be found.
No man is an island, let your guard down.
You don't have to fight me, I am for you.
We're not meant to live this life alone."
This is so beautiful! I can't get over it. I mean... these lyrics have comforted me a dozen times over. This is God talking to me. There are so many promises in this song (including in the other lyrics I didn't post). I can only imagine how many people this song has actually reached with the promise that we don't have to fight by ourselves. I mean, who doesn't want to hear that they're not alone? That there really is someone fighting for us, Someone who can win and has already won?
I think what these lyrics honestly have to do with is believers. I know on many occasions I've found myself deep in this dark abyss of loneliness, and I can't seem to find the light. I'm not even sure I know where I am, and I can't be positive I even want out. But then... my hand touches something... something soft and a little bit rough around the edges. And I realize it's a candle. And that's when God reminds me I have a lighter in my back pocket.
This song is the lighter in my back pocket. And the candle? My friends. My Christian friends. The ones I can go to at any time and talk things through with and they won't judge my inner motives- why I did what I did- and why I didn't want to crawl out of the ugly hole I fell into. They just... they are there for me. They listen. They find me, and you know what I do? I let my guard down and talk to them. Because I know God gave them to me for a reason. God gave all of us believers to talk to. I know that not every moment of every day do you have a friend that you can go to and be able to freely talk about God without any arguments bound to happen, but eventually, He will send someone if you ask Him. God didn't make us to be alone. He didn't make us to be islands. He made us to be cities, and countries, and communities that gather to glorify Him.
When was the last time you felt unloved and alone? I'd love to hear from you, and how God gave you someone to lean on in your time of hurt and need.
